What It Costs

Hourly Rates
(effective April 1, 2015)
Many of our legal services are billed by the hour at the following rates: 

  • Attorneys - $240-$320
  • Paralegals and legal assistants - $140-180
We do not take cases that result in contingency fees. As such, we do not offer free consultations.

Deposits
For matters requiring ongoing representation or anticipated advancement of costs, we require a deposit toward our anticipated fees and costs. When this deposit is fully spent, we will bill monthly or may require an additional deposit. When the work is completed and there are dollars remaining that belong to the client, we will promptly refund the balance.

Flat Fees
Flat fees are based on the Firm’s assessment that the Client’s legal matter is reasonable and customary for the flat fee service offered. Complex matters may incur additional fees.

Real Estate Transfers without an Agent 
Preparation and/or review of Purchase and Sale documents; review and advise on contents of title documents - $1,200.00.*

Preparation and/or review of Purchase and Sale documents; review and advise on contents of title documents and preparation of standard Seller Financing documents - $1500.00. *

Prepare and record Quit Claim Deed and Excise Tax Affidavit exclusive of Excise Tax - $325.**

*Purchase and sale flat fees apply only when buyer and seller are identified and agree on terms of the transaction. Meetings with client to advise on the process of 'for sale by owner' and analysis and resolution of issues related to the property but outside of the purchase or sale transaction will be invoiced at the attorney’s hourly rate. Flat fee applies only when an Escrow firm is used for closing. Title Insurance and Escrow fees are determined by the firms engaged by the parties. These costs are not included in the flat fee.

Estate Planning Fees
Basic Estate Planning includes creation of a Will, Powers of Attorney, a Health Care Directive and a Community Property Agreement when relevant. Where a range is specified, consult your attorney regarding your specific needs.

Simple Will:

Single – $650
Couple (married or unmarried) – $1,000

Will With Trust (for minor beneficiaries):

Single person – $800
Couple (married or unmarried) – $1,250

SELECTED SPECIAL SITUATIONS:

Optional Tax Planning for Estates over $2,000,000 per couple – $1,500-3,500
Disabled Beneficiary (Special Needs Trust) at time of initial draft – $150-300

REVOCABLE LIVING TRUST with Pour-Over Will – $3,000

POWERS OF ATTORNEY: Included with will, otherwise, at hourly rate.

HEALTH CARE DIRECTIVE: Included with will, otherwise, at hourly rate.

REVIEW OF EXISTING DOCUMENTS (prepared elsewhere): Included with will, otherwise, at hourly rate.

CODICIL: A codicil is a change to your Will. The codicil rates below apply when our office (or predecessor firm) prepared the initial documents within the preceding 10 years. In these circumstances, simple changes, such as adding a beneficiary, changing specific gifts or changing your Personal Representative (Executor), will be generally be charged as follows:

Changes to Will only: $150 single $225 couple
Changes to additional documents (powers of attorney, etc.): +25/person.

More complex changes, such as the addition of trusts or a substantial change in circumstances (marriage, divorce, etc.) will be billed at the hourly rate or at an agreed flat rate.
